Caretto Marta

Born in Lecce in 1989, she attained her M.D. from Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Rome in 2014 with the thesis ‘Integrated proteomic platforms for the comparative characterization of medulloblastoma and pilocytic astrocytoma pediatric brain tumors’ in collaboration with the Institute of Chemistry of Molecular Recognition of National Research Council (CNR) of Rome.

She completed her speciality training program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine of the University of Pisa in November 2020. She attended Clinical and Research Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology, Hammersmith Hospital and Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital, NHS, Imperial College London. She performsseveral clinical researches: her principal areas of interest are gynecologic oncology, gynecological endocrinology and climacteric medicine.

During her speciality training program, she has dedicated herself to improve her surgical skills: she has built up a considerable experience in open surgery for advanced forms of pelvic malignancies and in mini-invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) techniques for benign gynecology and oncology. She devotes herself to Gynecologic Oncology and research on Ovarian Cancer: she is working hard to evaluate new perspective of the insights in the diagnosis, biology and therapy of this gynecological malignancy.

In November 2021 she successfully passed the ESGO Examination in Gynaecological Oncology. In June 2023 she achieved the National scientific habilitation for Associate Professor SSD MED/40 Obstetrics and Gynecology. In March 2024, she was elected ENYGO (European Network of Young Gynae Oncologists) National Representative for Italy. In May 2024 she completed her research project part of Starting grand award- Italian Ministry of Health- Ricerca Finalizzata about “3-D Patient-specific Reconstructions for learning the Anatomy of the female pelvis and augmented reality for Improving advanced pelvic floor SurgEry (PRAISE)”.

Instead, in June 2024 she completed her PhD course in Clinical and Translational Sciences at University of Pisa with a Research project on “Characterization of the tumor microenvironment in epithelial ovarian cancer: deciphering the stromal molecular landscape and exploring the clinical value.” She is Member of “Italian Advisory Board on Cancer, Infertility and Pregnancy” (ABCIP) and of Social Media Committee – ENYGO – ESGO and she is part of several national and international groups of research about Gynecologic oncology.
